Excel 2007

I have three files with a single cell linking from one file to another. When I enter the data in the 1st workbook, it updates to the 2nd workbook as soon as I open the 2nd workbook. The 3rd workbook links to the 2nd workbook and updates the data as soon as I open the 3rd workbook. However, I want to be able to open the 3rd workbook (without firstly opening the 2nd workbook) and have it update with whatever is in the 1st workbook automatically - without using macros or vba.

Is this possbile?

E.g.
File 1 - weekly report - cell A1 - has data of 100 entered.
File 2 - monthly report - cell D1 - linked to file 1, cell A1.
File 3 - Yearly report - cell G1 - linked to file 2, cell D1.

If I change the data in file 1, cell A1 to 500 and save it, I want to be able to open file 3 and see the new data in cell D1.
At present I have to open file 2 first and save that. then open file 3 and the new data is visible.
