Sort data by font colour not working properly

Hi,
I have a spreadsheet with approx. 200 rows and 15 columns with 3 different colour fonts. I highlight all rows and columns and sort in the follow order:

1. Column "A" by font colour "automatic" to the top
2. Column "A" by font colour "green" to the bottom (which I'm assuming would automatically make the 3rd colour in the middle)
3. Column "A" A-Z

When I do this the results are very random. For the most part the rows are only sorted A-Z the font colour doesn't seem to be in any specific order.

Does anyone know what's going on here?

I will add that I have an alternating colour row cell colour locked, not sure if that matters.

I believe you can only filter by value or color, not both.

I tried adding in the 3rd colour, it didn't change anything.

I also tried removing the "Sort A-Z", it sorted more accurately but there are still quite a few in the wrong place.

Anyone have a solution?

Hi, did you ever find a solution to this problem? I'm having a similar issue, sometimes when I sort by colors, the rows just get redistributed randomly. I'm thinking this might be because my coloring is from a conditional formatting, but I don't understand why this is an issue. Filtering by color works as intended even with colors from a conditional format.

Very old post, but adding this just in case someone stumbles across this forum like I did. If the colours come from conditional formatting (as I'm assuming they did) you have to make sure that all of the cells in the sort range have the relevant conditional formatting (as this is tied to the cells and therefore doesn't move when sorted).

Hope this helps anyone who stumbles across this in the future.
