Sum of Max's based on multiple criteria

I have a large database of information based on dates. I want to find sum of the max of subgroups of this data. The subgroups are determined by a date and a list of 8 or so items on a different sheet that i would like to keep dynamic. I know this will need to be an array function but not sure how to construct in order to sum the max of each subgroup.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I think you'll need to supply a sample workbook...

Have you considered using a Pivot Table and grouping by dates?

I've tried pivot tables but I don't think they will work for what i am trying to do.

    Attached is a sample workbook.

    Thanks for your help

So, you want the max. of each group on sheet "Scorecard (2)", or? Where do you want it returned?

In the Ratio Column on the Scorecard sheet, I want to sum the total supervisory minutes for a day divided by the sum of the Maxs of each different SupervisingP for that day. Does that make sense?

It's not pretty, but I beleive it should work; use this for G6 and copy down:
