I just converted my 2003 file to the 2010 version, and it went from 906kb to 330kb. On the face of it I can see no differences in loss of data/functions!
Is there a reason for this or will data have become lost somewhere? Thanks

the new .xlsx file format is a zipped file so you can see a reduction in file size, due to compression, for certain files.
wait, its currently .xslm. same applies?
awesome, thanks for the reply. A much improved version then!
.xlsm denotes the file contains macros.

all the new file types (xlsx, xlsm, xlsb, etc.) are all compressed types. xls could contain macros but xlsx cannot. That's why you would have to save as xlsm or xlsb.
