How could I write a statement that would highlight a cell if the number inside was red with brackets around it?
How could I write a statement that would highlight a cell if the number inside was red with brackets around it?
Can you give a little more description behind this number? Where does it come from, via a formula, manually entered etc?
What is your goal?
HTH
Regards, Jeff
Numbers are manually entered. I have all the negative numbers displayed in the format where it shows something like (100) for -100 and and makes the color of the number and brackets red. I want to be able to have every cell with a negative number be highlighted.
Apply a custom format
Ctrl + 1 >> Format cells >> Custom >> 0_);[Red](0)
...Or you can use Conditional Formating for this.
Formula in Conditional format rules, will be
=$a1<0

I'm not understanding. I tried copying the custom format and pasting it but it did not affect any of my cells. As far as the conditional formatting is concerned, where can I input that into my spreadsheet so that it will highlight every negative cell
In Conditional Formatting rules..
where is the formula inputted there?
Just change the range from $A1:$A100, to $A1:"what you want"....
Try This,
Go to manage rules.![]()
Ok now I see. Is there anyway to format it so that anytime there is a negative number in a row, it fills the entire row with a yellow highlight?
....In Conditional Formatting rules..
Is it possible in excel in general for anytime there is a negative number in a row, to highlight the entire row?
