Formats and links

Is there a way to have the format (specifically font color) of a cell come through in a link? For example, I have input sheets in which people change the font color to blue to indicate new. These source sheets are linked to a master file which compiles the data into dashboards by customer (meaning that the data is resorted from the input sheets so pasting formats won't work).

No, a formula can only return a result, not a format. If the colour were applied via conditional formatting (eg if your users put the word "New" in an adjacent cell and CF was set up to detect this) then the same CF rules could be used in the destination cell to bring the same colour through.
