Did you check my example?
The dates are scattered along the axis. It just when you use a line chart with dates the labelling is a little more intelligent about how it groups dates.
That said there is no reason why the prinicple can not be applied to a scatter.

I did try the chart example you attached, however it was in categories and I didn't attempt to convert to a scatter chart.
I just tried converting it to a scatter chart and the results are what I was looking for. Thank you very much for you advice and suggestions.
