Excel 2003, text suddenly now enters as Chinese, was English

Any advice please? I have an Excel 2003 spreadsheet and following a couple of glitches with my PC, the text now enters in Chinese. Have checked for viruses, believe it to be clear, but unable to resolve the problem.

Check the language settings in excel--maybe your OS too.

My WAG is that you're entering the English, Excel is taking the appropriate ASCII number for each character, turning around, and displaying the Chinese that corresponds to the numbers for that ASCII value.
