Hi, I hope someone can help me with this. I have the following data; in column A all the items and in column B the amount of the items
Bread 1
Butter 1
Bread 3
Milk 1
Cheese 2
Milk 2
Bread 4
Chocolate 2
Coffee 1
Bread 5
I need a formula that automatically finds the total number of breads. So in this case
Bread= 13

use the =sumif() formula
if you use the formula assistant, it will step you through it

in case you are interested in adding to your repertoire, try SUMPRODUCT, too. for your specific case:
=sumproduct((a:a="bread")*(b:b))

CSE, aka Array aka { }, formulae are confirmed with CONTROL+SHIFT+ENTER.
Replace commas ( , ) with semicolons ( ; ) in formulae, if your locale setting demands.
