What is the apostophe doing in a cell

    Hi,

Could anyone tell me why and what is the apostrophe doing in some of these cells. I would also would like to know why most cells in the same column do not have ths apostrophe.

See attached pictures. This is very problematic as it keeps me from exporting the data into SQL Server properly. Data that have an apostrophe will be transfered.

The apostrophe indicates that the cell contains text not a value. Meaning if you where to add the '11 to a 11 value you would get an error because one is text and the other is a number.

So are you saying you want them all to have apostrophe's or not (i.e. to all be text or not)?

Re: What is the apostophe doing in a cell

I formatted the entire column as text. I don't really need these apostophes but for some curious reasons that I can't explain, I cannot export them unless they have one. Exporting into SQL Server is my concern.

If I remove them all, how is it going to impact on the values in this column. Are they going to remain the same?

to make it simple the problematic column has values such as 1,2,3... and A,B,C. The format is text and the destination column format is nvarchar. Because excel puts an apostrophe this cause a lot of troubles in the export. I have disabled the error ckecking rule but it does not remove these apostrophes.

I know I can program a little script to remove them all but is there anything else faster and simpler?

    thanks

This is an issue that I've always had trouble with. Try working with "Text to Columns" and see if that removes your apostrophes.
