i have designed a spreadsheet for my boss to use, i need to be able to lock formula cells unless a password is provided, this way he cannot change things.
Probably a simple solution
thanks for the suggestions

A simple way is this.
In Columns that you want users to be able to type, do this.
Right click>>Format cells>>Protection>>Uncheck the lock option.
Then use the Standard Sheet protection ...

the only problem with that is there isn't a certain row or column formulas are in they are just scattered everywhere really
I really don't know if you can do this via VBA....
Another possible way is using Conditional Formatting to fill with color, all the cells that include formula.
Just to see the user. This does not prevent user to type anything....
Hi all,
Can I butt in?
It sounds like you work for the same "organisation" I just escaped from! Some bosses there shouldn't be let loose with a computer.. . for my boss to use, i need to be able to lock formula cells unless a password is provided, this way he cannot change things.
Can you not take Fotis's suggestion a little further (Post #2). After ensuring that all cells are "locked" then select each cell whilst Ctrl key is held and then format and uncheck the locked box and protect as usual.
Regards
Russell
