Nested MATCH function for cell reference possible?

Hey there, just a quick is it possible question:

Is it possible to use the MATCH function as part of a cell reference? For example:

If I had a column of data and wanted to find the row number and use it to build a cell reference --

=D(MATCH("Three",C:C,0))

Say "Three" is in C4 and I wanted the data in D4... would that work?

Or is there a better way to do it?

=INDEX(D:D,MATCH("Three",C:C,0))

Thanks guys! Both of those were very helpful as I had very different needs in the same document! I'd never really used MATCH/INDEX and never heard of INDIRECT ... thanks a bunch!

Just be aware that INDIRECT() is one of the volatile functions and, as mentioned in the following link, should be avoided if another option is available.
