Multiple IF formula

I have created a list of employee types. I also have a list of the hourly rates associated with these. I want to creste a formula that says for example: if A1 contains Employee1, return rate 1, if it contains Employee 2, return rate 2 and so on. Can anyone help me out with this?

Sounds like A1 should be a drop down box showing all the Names and B1 a Vlookup that looks at the value in A1 and returns the Rate from a Table.
