Data validation based on the selection in another cell.

I want a validation cell to validate an entry based on the category (i.e. C or D) selected in another cell.

If “D” is selected, then in the validation cell only dates after 29/2/12 can be entered.
If “C” is selected, any date can be entered.

    Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I think that you need Dependent Lists, for this.

Take a look here and if you can not handle it, then pls, upload a small sample workbook for us.

Hi Lotis and thanks for the reply. I can elaborate more.

Accepted manually keyed entries in B1 are dependent on the selection in A1. Therefore if I select “D” in cell A1, then cell B1 will only allow me to manually enter any date greater than 29/02/2012 (i.e. 1/3/2012,2/3/2012,…). I would hope with the data validation in place in cell B1, all entries before 1/3/2012, an error message box would appear.
