    Need help processing these steps...

A friend of mine (who is hard to get a ahold of at times) created a baseball spread sheet that updates player stats from the internet. He shared this with me and I asked him well how do I update it each day and he wrote back the following steps which I need help with. Here is what he wrote..... My questions will be in bold print.

    Sure, really just 3 steps

    1. Click "Refresh data" (Where is the refresh data button?)
    2. In each sheet, highlight column A & click "text to column" (2010 feature) (I found this feature in 2007 as well, However when I click it it brings up a wizard that asks questions like is it delimited or fixed width etc... Is this normal or would 2010 not ask that?)
    3. In each sheet, copy and paste formula down (Have no idea where to find what to copy and where to paste it?)

    Thanks for your time.

Here is the file in question mlbstats.xls

    1. Click the Data tab and Refresh All is about the 5th icon from the left - just click it.

    2. Yes, the Wizard will guide you through that part of the process in 3 panels - your data is delimited by spaces (2nd panel), and you want to overwrite the existing data (panel 3).

    3. You have formulae in columns U onwards in your first sheet and in columns V onwards in your second sheet. You need to copy these down each column to the bottom of your (new) data, as you may have more rows of data now than before.

    Hope this helps.

    1. Refresh: Go to Data > you will find Refresh All button under Connections group
2.Go to Data > Click on Text To Columns, choose delimited, check space, hit finish
    3. Column U to Y, there are formula in there. I think you just do a copy and paste special and fill the formula

    Thanks guys I got it..

I did not seem to need to use the copy and paste option to get the stat to update. So what does that option do since I could not figure out how to do it but seemed to not need to.

Well I am wondering if I need to figure out how to do the copy and paste thing. Is there an easier way to word it for me? Cause I noticed some players are now on different teams and not sure if that has to do with me skipping the step.

When I did Refresh All there were about 6 or 7 new records at the bottom, so you need to copy the formulae down to cover this new data.

    Hope this helps.
