Re: Alternative to Find (Cntrl + F) ?

    Thanks for you quick reply.

I have attached a sample file in which we have to cntrl + F and find.

Normally we have around 1000+ data's (which are our customer names and not numbers). For Ex: I have to find Data - 863654934. So I have to type Cntrl + F and then paste this number.

I wanted to prepare a file which would automatically detect the copied data.

For Ex: From internet I have copied 863654934 to the clipboard, the excel should automatically detect the number and find for me.

    Thank you

this may not make things any easier for you, but try using a =match() function...i put this in C1, with the number you are looking for in D1. you could paste the value there.

    =MATCH(D1,A1:A165,0)

the anwer it gives if the row the data is in

No that is not what am looking for. I will explain you further.

The excel file contains customer names. So normally we press cntrl + F and find the name and check the correspondent data. What i want is when i copy the customer name from other software to the clipboard, the excel should automatically find the customer and the correspondent data.

In order to run a macro, you would need, as a minimum, to press a shortcut key combination. That macro could retrieve what's on the clipboard, and then search for it.

However, since you have to press a key combination anyway, it seems to me it might as well be Ctrl+F, and you can paste from the clipboard into the find what box.
