Question How to populate daily data in 24 hour format into Excel?

I have a problem. I've come across a situation in my office where they want me to enter data across columns depending on the hour and the department the data comes from. For instance there are 4 departments and each one can have data entered on it's own row depending on the hour it was commissioned for. So there are 24 hours in the day and data gets populated depending on when it was noted. Is there an easier way to enter this data without getting cross eyed in determining where to place the data in the rows?

    Here's a simple example

    Accounting
    Finance
    Marketing
    Human Resources

Each department can have someone doing something in a 24 hour span and I need to enter this by populating the rows across with the headers listing the hours...in 24 hour format. There's got to be an easier way to do this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Without an example, no one will be able to give you any real advice?

On the other hand, maybe all you need to do is to freeze panes, so that your header row, and Column A always remain visible?
If so, select cell B2, then click on View, Freeze panes.
If you then scroll across to column Y, you will still see column A, so you would know which department you are working with.

The problem is I was wondering if there was a way of simply listing the department using 4 rows and inputting data into each corresponding row across columns for that department that's been used for one day. After inputting the data across the rows, Excel then copies the data down into the grid that's duplicating the input the user enters for that day. Either that or using calculated field to generate running totals for that day and pasting that as values into another row?
