Excel 2007 : Pivot table calculation with formulas

Hi,

I am looking for a formula to identify the dates in the column "A" and count the occurances in corresponding fields in column "B".
In other words, I am looking for pivot table calculation with formulas.

4/1/2012 Gray
4/1/2012 Gray
4/1/2012 Rayne
4/2/2012 Gray
4/2/2012 Rayne

You can do this with Countifs Functions or a Pivot table. See attachment.
