    Red face Search for employee ID, based on Employee Name

    Hello Excel Forum Members
    i have a somewhat easy problem for you guys to help me with. (hard for me, at the moment)

    i have a list of Employee ID's in an excel spreadsheet (EmployeeIDs.xlsx)
    it has Column A (name) Column B (ID)
    on a separate excel spreadsheet i would like to be able to enter the the name of an employee and automatically populate the Employee ID field based on the EmployeeIDs.xlsx spreadsheet

    how can i do this?

    Hi

    In A1, of your other Sheet, choose or type the Employed Name. In B1(or where you like, put this formula.

    =INDEX(EmployeedIDs!B1:B20;MATCH(A1;EmployeedIDs!A1:A20;0))

    Just in case you do not know, they use a semi-colon as a separator in Greek Excel, you will need to replace all ; in Fotis1991's formula with commas.

    We straddle the divide somewhat in the UK. We use a comma separator, but we are more aware of European differences than our US colleagues
