    limit cell editability

    Hi

is it possible to limit the editability of a group of cells (or columns) in a protected shared file?

What I want to do is have a file on the server that sales and production staff can enter ordered materials into. Some cells/columns will be locked so they cannot edit the titles and the autofilled dates (through macros). For the other cells I would like it to be ONLY possible to type the details into the cells or delete what is there.
I am hoping to set up a simple computer in our receivables section purely running this file with no keyboard set-up (mouse only) as all they should need to do is change the "Arrived" column dropmenu to "yes" and maybe clear the content of cell (which triggers a "clear entire row" macro) after the products have been used (and we no longer need the record of whether it has arrived...).

    Hope this all makes sence...

    Thanks
    Patrick

    Re: limit cell editability

    Hi,

If i read correctly what you are after, then i had a similar project before, where certain ranges on a protected sheet, were unlocked by different passwords.
please see attached and see if this helps.
On the sheet you can do the following:

x2 buttons - these will unlock or lock the ENTIRE sheet with a masterpassword.
Try to edit the purple range - you need to type 'Test'
Try to edit the Blue range - you need to type 'Test2'
Try to edit the orange range - you need to type 'Test3'

If it helps please click the star to add rep
