    If then conditional formatting

I am having trouble with conditionally formatting a group of cells. What I want to do is compare total counts of two cell ranges and highlight one of the cell ranges if it is different from the other.

The specific problem is this; I am carrying out an experiment to follow mosquito larval development and I start on day 1 with a total of 25 larvae. On day 2 some of the larvae may have died and others will have developed into pupae; however the total count should still be 25 and if it is not I have made a mistake counting which I would like to highlight by formating the cells a different color.

I believe the conditional formating rule should be something like :

If Sum(A1:E1) is not equal to Sum(D1:I1) then format cells D1:I1 red

I have spent hours trying to do this but cant figure it out; I'm sure this could be done in Excel 2003 but 2007 wont let me.

Thanks in advance for any help

    Alan

    Re: If then conditional formatting

Sorry I closed this thread too soon. The next problem is how can I copy this conditional formatting to the next row of cells; do I have to enter the conditional formula row by row or is there any way of copying it to the next row so that :

If Sum(A2:E2) is not equal to Sum(D2:I2) then format cells D2:I2 red

    Thanks i

    Re: If then conditional formatting

    You are welcome Alan..

To copy the conditional formula to other rows... just remove the dollar sign from the formula and start dragging.. you can also copy - paste special- formats. thanks.
