order code generator - vlookup???

Help urgently neded.

I have a pick list of text description, that when it is chosen, need to show a corresponding code reference to generate a manufacturing code.
Is EXCEL the best/easiest way to do it.
Have tried VLOOKUP function, but not sure if that is the best way

Hope the attached spreadsheet throws more light on what I am trying to achieve (if it is possible)

Firstly I'm no expert but what about somewhere hidden on the sheet or on another sheet you write the manufactoring code and link it to the pick list. (Insert - name- define.)

So where you want the code to appear try..................

=IF(D15="P",Sheet1!B24,IF(D15="H",Sheet1!B25,IF(D15="S",Sheet1!B26,IF(D15="B",Sheet1!B27,IF(D1="Y",Sheet1!B28)))))

etc. Then at B24 have code for Gas pressure medium and at B25 code for Mineral Oil etc. You could add a multipul drop down at D15 also to pick the letter you need.

Only mention this as I have just used with help from this site Q and A sheet and it works.

there is probably a better and quicker way for what its worth I have attached my form - hope I've not made myself look thick!!!
