    String manipulation

    Hi there!

    I want to write a function or formula in cell a1 that print the name "john" in cell b1 if cell c1 is not blank.
    What function or formula can do taht task?
    I'm using excel 2010.

    Why, just don't use this in B1?

    =IF(C1<>"","John","")

    but initially I want a default value or label in cell b1 that will change to "John" if I enter an input in c1.

    You cannot have a formula in one cell that puts a value in another cell. Please explain better and don't use vague language like "... a default value ..."
