SOLVED - Formula for a Declining Percentage Scale based on a total number grows

    Hi Guys,

I've spent hours trying to figure this one out, and I'm no closer than when I started.

Here's what I'm trying to do:

It's basically a profit sharing formula, where the person with the most seniority gets the largest percentage. So lets say the company has 1000 in it's profit sharing account, and there's 10 people to divide that amongst. The person in slot 1 should get the largest percentage, slot 2 gets a lesser percentage...all the way down to slot 10, the newest guy who gets the smallest percentage. The decline in percentage should be proportional to the number of people (slots).

The formula would need to be able to grow too. So if there's another new guy, now we have 11 people total, and that #11 guy would now receive the smallest percentage.

    Thanks in advance!

    Forum Rules
Please read and adhere to these simple rules!

    1. Use concise, accurate thread titles. Your post title should describe your problem, not your anticipated solution. Use terms appropriate to a Google search. Poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice will be addressed according to the OP's experience in the forum: If you have less than 10 posts, expect (and respond to) a request to change your thread title. If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.

To change the title of the thread, click EDIT on the original post, then click the Go Advanced button, then change the title. If two or more hours have passed, the EDIT button will not appear, and you need to ask a moderator to change the title.

To change a Title on your post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title, if 2 days have passed ask a moderator to do it for you.

    Hope that helps.

With a descending rank in B2:B11, copy down C2:C11...

    =1000/SUM($B$2:$B$11)*B2
