    Time HHH:MM

Hello all, I'm a newbie so bear with me. I have data that I pull that is in a HH:MM format. Example [375:55] which is 375 hrs and 55 mins. I need to convert it to a single number like (375:55 converted to 22555mins) so I can calcuate percentage of time lost.

example: total time [290:19] lost time [18:14] ='s [6.28%] of lost time

    Thanks for any help

    Hi
If your time is real time , not text looking like time, your percentage is given by lost_time/total_time

No need to change to decimal or anything

    EDIT see attached Lost Time.xlsx

    Hi,

Why do you need to convert to a number?
    With 290:19 in A1 and 18:14 in B1, then =B1/A1 results in 6.28

    Regards

k, how would I change it from text to a usable number? When I try to do that excel thinks the hrs are mins and the mins are secs.

try multiplying it by 60, that should change mins to hours, and seconds to mins

Even formatted as text the simple division suggested by Richard and Pepe should work OK, did you try those suggestions? What results did you get?
