Working on a excel file simultaneously

    Dear all,

In my business we are based in different parts of the world. and we want to work on the same excel file simultaneously.
    I can't find a program for this.
Google Docs and Windows Office Live both don't support everything in the excel file (data validation etc.),
Dropbox and similair keep creating 'conflicted copies'.
So a solution for my problem would be a netbased program wichs lets only one person in a time working on the file.
    Let me give an example:
person A,B and C have excess to document X, They only can make changes to this document when connected to internet.
During the time person A makes changes document X is not availeble for person B and C (maybe read-only).

Our local server works like that but i can't find a internetbased program which does the same...

Hi mwoerd and welcome to the forum,

See if http://www.exceltraining.org.uk/exce...ice-365-cloud/ doesn't explain it better.

I believe you are correct in saying you lose some functionallity with the Excel Web App that is in full blown Excel Client on your own drive.
One test is worth a thousand opinions.

Re: Working on a excel file simultaneously

    Hi,

Step back and put yourself in Microsoft's place. You have this great spreadsheet that does great things and you make money by selling it to people with computers. You want to allow each person who BUYS Excel to make two personal copies of it.

Now the net comes along and people want ALL the features of Excel without really needing to buy it. They want to use their web browser and simply go to the web and do all the functions of Excel. I'd say that is a bad business plan. Why should people buy Excel if they can use it on the net for free?

That being said - Google Docs comes along and has their stuff on the net. They make money for this "Free" use somehow. Do they charge for time you use? Do they sell advertising to people and put commercials on their web pages? Do they collect information about people so we get marketed to better?

I believe the Google Doc Spreadsheet and Office 365 are not full versions of Excel. I do believe you can input data into cells and resave the sheets. I'm not sure Excel has the Sharing between multiple people (at the same time) over the net that you want.

I hope the above helps with your problem.

Re: Working on a excel file simultaneously

i understand what your saying. If you read my question i am not asking for a full excel version for free on the internet. (It would solve my problem, but i understand microsoft won't do it). I am more looking for a program which let me share my files whit my colleages, and which they can edit aswel. I found a lot of those but i need a "special" feature in it that makes sure there won't be any conflicted copies. So if colleage A works on it, it's not excesseble for colleage B and C.
