    Question vlookup problems

    hi all
having some problems with vlookup today.
    here is the scenario....
on the main sheet (the one with the vlookup formula) i have a list of part numbers (ordered) together with the quantities of each.
on the second sheet i have a list of parts that the head office thinks we have.
so, should be a simple vlookup to compare one with the other....
    however......
on the main sheet there are a few parts that are not on the head office sheet.
when i copy the formula to these "missing" parts the formula takes the value from the previous part number !
any help and guidance you could give me would be much appreciated
    also,
could i use anything other than vlookup to do this ?
    thanks

perhpas youe are using TRUE as last argument in your VLOOKUP instead of FALSE ( for an exact match)

For an exact match the correct syntax is =vlookup(target cell, lookup table, lookup column, FALSE) -Check XL's help function for more details
