    linked textbox in Excel chart

    Hi
I have several bar charts that display either percentages. I would like to display the corresponding numbers for each of the percentages. While it does not appear to be possible to do this as a series within the chart, I was wondering if it is possible to do add some form of textboxes on top of the chart and link back to the tab in the spreadsheet that contains the value?

It does not appear this can be done with the typical textbox (Insert -> Textbox) unless I am missing something. Is there something else available?

try this free addin to link data labels to cells.
    http://www.appspro.com/Utilities/ChartLabeler.htm

In the cells you can prepare the data you want displayed via the data label.

Re: linked textbox in Excel chart

    Hi Andy
After trying the above program again, it appears that if there are existing data labels on a chart for a series and you attempt to add a second set of labels, the program just overwrites the first with the second. Am I doing something wrong or is there no way to have two sets of data labels for a given series on a chart?

Re: linked textbox in Excel chart

Does anyone have any ideas how to create a linked textbox on/over a chart that links back to another cell in the spreadsheet?

The textbox feature does not appear to allow linking to other fields in the spreadsheet.

Each series can have only 1 set of data labels. If you want 2 sets you will need to add another set of the data.

By using the addin you can create, in a single cell, multiple bits of information to display in a single data label

To do this though, all I am doing is putting the multiple bits of information in the data cell the chart is pointing to (this is not what I want to do though). I can then use the regular chart function to point to the concatenated cell. Why would I need the addin then?

Automatic data labels will only display information that is used by the data series. That is, data values, category labels and series name.
If you want any other information displayed in a data label you will have to manually edit the data label. You can link a data label to a cell which contains the compound data. The addin makes the linkage process simpler.
Perhaps if you posted an example of the chart and what information you want to show it would make things clearer.
