Embedding Picture Files as Pop ups inside Excel Files

I am wanting to embed picture files into my excel folder for a list of items found at a hardware store. For each entry in the database I want to have a corresponding picture for that peice of hardware. Normally I would just consider using a hyperlink to each individual picture; however, at times I will not have internet access and will need to show clients the pictures.

Is it possible to embed the pictures into the excel file such that it creates a pop up or something of that nature for each picture I have?

    For instance

    Hardware Entry
    6 panel Door

    Cost
    $350

Picture (click and see picture of $350 door without having online access)
    Shows picture of $350 Door

    Thanks in advance.

Isert Tab at the top --> Picture. Then you can apply a hyperlink to the picture.

Open this and tell us if this would work...with this type of formula you can modify it to go outside the folder into another foler as well.

As an addition to what has already been suggested,
you can also embed a picture in a "Comment" field
then when every you mouse over that cell, the picture will appear.

    Comment Box with picture:

First, add a comment to the cell, but remove any text.
Next, right click the border of the comment box and select Format Comment.
Next select the Color and Lines tab.
From the drop down box labeled Color select Fill Effects
    Select the Picture Tab
then browse for the desired picture location on your hard drive.
Double click on your picture and resize as needed.

I love that approach as well, especially on a smaller scale. its very impresive on several levels.

Re: Embedding Picture Files as Pop ups inside Excel Files

Thanks for the replies, both of these work; however, I am wanting to use these spreadsheets on my ipad2 with quickoffice. It seems with either my file (utilizing the comment pop up pictures) or charlie_howell's hyperlink pictures, no pictures will pop up in quickoffice, while it works perfectly on PC. Within quickoffice on the ipad I don't even see an option to click the hyperlink cell, it just tries to edit it. If anyone has any experience with an iOS using quickoffice and can help with this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

Can't Answer your question definitively, however, if you are going to use an Ipad I would use "Numbers". Numbers with icloud is great, what you do on one IOS device happens on the othe so you have your sheets and data on both devices automatically. I use Iphone and ipad in the field and its superior to anything currently out there. oh and pages is good too.

Re: Embedding Picture Files as Pop ups inside Excel Files

    Hi there!
I'm also lookig for way of embedding pictures but need slightly different approach i think.
I'm just in the process of creating sheet which will be sourcing data from few tabs of large database.
In theory after keying the part number in one cell all the rest will be filled in automatically. That's the easy bit.

What I'm looking to do is to find a way for pictures to appear on that sheet as well. Can't really use hyperlinks or comments as this will not give me visible picture and i need to be able to print them out toghether with other data on the same sheet.

I can not use the same database for storring pictures but if someone have an idea how to make it working on all versions starting from 2002 I'll be very appreciating for any help given.

    Regards!

Re: Embedding Picture Files as Pop ups inside Excel Files

I am needing the same solution but the ones posted to this thread have not worked.
Specifically, I need the excel file to have the photo as part of the excel file and not as a hyperlink path that depends on being able to access the location of the image. In other words, where ever the excel file goes, the image needs to go with it, and wherever that excel file goes it may not have access to the same path that a hyperlink would have access to.
basically the exact spec of the title of this thread; "Embedded" such that they "popup"

I tried the insert comment version of this but my version of excel (O365 subscribed client install on laptop) does not give the formatting options in comments or I am not finding them.

I know this topic is 8 years old.

    Thoughts?

Re: Embedding Picture Files as Pop ups inside Excel Files

This forum is over controlled by its admins. I asked a legitimate and perfectly on topic question to this thread.
It was not anything different than the exact topic itself as written.

I was told I needed to post a new thread, which invites all the same solutions that have already be posted in the topic of this thread which makes no sense,
due to a forum rule about "never ask new questions in a thread", apparently, no matter how on topic your question is to the thread, it matters naught to the Admins because new questions are VERBOTEN!!.

If all I am going to get for help is a forum Nazi-admin shutting my question down for breaking rules that make no common sense, then please just ban me from the forum.
There are plenty of other resources to go to.

Thanks for a lousy first experience with your crappy forum!! Bye!

I guess some people either dont know how to follow rules, or just choose to ignore those rules that they dont like.
