    Saving in older version

I have a date field and I am using 2007 version. I save it as a 2003 version and it converts back to the general format. I need to save it as a 2003 version. The same thing happens with the highlighting when I save it as a 2003 version and then open it again the highlighting or background color in yellow no longer displays. What am I doing wrong and why will it not save these things.

    Hi Al,

Your query is not clear enough.
You have Excel 2007 version and here you have a date field.
You save it in Excel 2003 format and converts back that date field to General format.
Now you say "you need to save it as a 2003 version" which could mean that you need to save the file in Excel 2003 version but date field should remain in date format and should not be changeed to General format.

Let me know if I got your correctly.

    Re: Saving in older version

Yes that is correct I need to save it to a 2003 version but when I save it and open it up again it returns to the general format and not the date format. What do I need to do when I save it to make sure it stays in the date format and does not open up to the general format when I open it up again.

    Re: Saving in older version

    Hi Al,

Would like to know the file extensions i.e.,
    1) what extension do you see when you have the file in Excel 2007 version (xlsx, csv etc)
    2) what extension do you see when you have converted the file in Excel 2003 version (xls, csv etc)

    Thanks.

    Regards,

    Re: Saving in older version

The extension that I have is XLS when I save it in the 2003 version. Does that make a difference? When I save it in the 2007 version it is XLSX. But when I save it in the 2003 version it is formatted ok but when I close it and open it again does it switch back to the gerneral format and not the date format.

    Re: Saving in older version

    Hi AI,

Why I was asking the extension because Excel may loose formatting etc if worked upon on .csv files and now since you are using xls and xlsx version it is getting interested. Can you share that file with forum? Thanks.

    Here is the workbook

But when I get a small enough speadsheet it keeps the formating. The original one is too big to download.

    Hi aaslezak,

I have checked the attachment and found that column F has the date and it is fine here.
Also just an option, are you sure that this is not happening because of mm/dd/yy (USA) vs dd/mm/yy(INDIA) date format?
