    Re: Monthly Profit/Loss

    If your data is always sorted try this:

    =IF(MONTH(A2)<>MONTH(A3),TEXT(A2,"mmm")&" Total "&IF(SUM(D$2:D2)-SUM(E$2:E2)>=0,"Profit ","Loss ")&TEXT(SUM(D$2:D2)-SUM(E$2:E2),"0,00"),"")
    Never use Merged Cells in Excel

    Re: Monthly Profit/Loss

    I tried putting your formula, its coming blank.
    I didn't get anything, maybe I am more dumb that you think!

    I have attached my file, can you plz put formula into it and show the results if it works.

    Total of column D of each month and that result should be in end row of that month in column E.

    Hope my demand is not too challenging.

    Yes sums are coming correct, can you describe a bit how you used that formula with month variable in it?

    Also if I enter more values then I will have to enter formula again for that month?

    Formula look at A1 are months different. If they are same it leave blank, if not it takes SUM until that date minus previous SUM (giving SUM of current month).

    Just pull formula down as much as you need, and when you enter new data it will calculate it automatically.

    I would use a PivotTable, but your dates aren't entered as proper dates. Is this a download from an accounts program?
    Hope that helps.

    No everything I enter in that excel file including dates and other numbers.
    Never heard of pivot table before, so far only used to formulas.
