    Data Validation List

I have created a list in a one workbook and in another workbook I added a data Validation list and set the error to stop.
But when I edit the cell I don't get the error message?

    Re: Data Validation List

Validation list would work better if the list is in the same sheet, try by linking the original validation list somewhere where the sheet report is, make this list the validation one and then hide these cells, is not what you are asking for but it works....

    Re: Data Validation List

You can most certainly have the List on another sheet and using a named range is entirely appropriate. Try unselecting "Ignore Blank" in your Data Validation setup.

You may want to research "Dynamic Named Ranges".

    Thanks for your help
    Unselecting "Ignore Blank" worked

Thanks for your help as will
What you said does work and may be the better way to build the spread sheet,
But I needed to reserve the rest of the worksheet for future data processes
