"Smart Paste" - Keep some values fixed in my formula.

    Hi again.

I'm getting there with the help of the forum, but I have a paste question that I hadn't anticipated. My formula is this:
    =VLOOKUP(C22,L22:M500,2,FALSE)

I want to paste that into lots of cells below, but only the C22 value needs to change each time.

I can paste the same thing each time, or I can let Excel thinks it knows better. When that happens I get:=VLOOKUP(C23,L23:M501,2,FALSE)
    What I want is: =VLOOKUP(C23,L22:M500,2,FALSE)

Again, I tried to find this out for myself, but it's not an easy thing to phrase in Google.

    Many, many thanks
    Steve

The terms you are looking for are absolute and relative references. Google them, or use Excel's Help, and you'll get lots of detail on how they work.

    All the best,
