Divide two columns then express as a percentage

    Hi

I am just having a little trouble with this one (someone will say its easy as, but I have been staring at it for ages), I have to create a formula that divides column F by Column D and expresses the differences as a percentage of column D

    eg Column D Colum F
    5,769.39 73,966.50

Do I do =sum(Column D/colum F) or the other way around?? I know how to change it to a percentage, just whatever why I do it looks ok

    Thanks for any help
    Kylie

Please, rename your title according to the rules:

    1. Use concise, accurate thread titles. Your post title should describe your problem, not your anticipated solution. Use terms appropriate to a Google search. Poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice will be addressed according to the OP's experience in the forum: If you have less than 10 posts, expect (and respond to) a request to change your thread title. If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.

To change the title of the thread, click EDIT on the original post, then click the Go Advanced button, then change the title. If two or more hours have passed, the EDIT button will not appear, and you need to ask a moderator to change the title.

Re: Divide two columns then express as a percentage

Yes preferably if that was your after on your question
I have to create a formula that divides column F by Column D
but if you are getting like what is the percentage of 5,769.39 out of 73,966.50

your previous formula is correct 5,769.39 / 73,966.50 gives you 7.80%

    5,769.39 is 7.80% of 73,966.50
