Excel 2007 : Custom number format in chart

I was wondering if anyone knew how to delete custom formatting from the excel charts. I was experimenting and added some values but I cant seem to find a way to delete them. I searched the web as well as this forum (perhaps the keywords I was using wasn't helpful) but couldn't figure out how to do it.

But they seem to be talking about editing excel workbook as such.. and compiling it.. I'm not sure how thats done either.

Any help would be appreciated.

Can you not simply apply a different number format, and then delete the unused number format using the Format-Cells dialog?

Nope. Tried that, it doesnt seem to delete it. Weird!

Hmm, you're right. Interestingly, Excel 2010 simply ignores the existence of the unused format when you open the file, though the format is still there if you reopen in 2007, even if saved in 2010.
I suspect you would have to edit the XML then.
