data extraction: vlookup / if / index...?

    Hi,

I have a work schedule worksheet that has staff on the row, date in the column, and shift detail in the cells (for each staff member on any given day). I also have a "daily" worksheet to which I would like to extract data from the main worksheet.

The daily has shift times, and I'd like to draw the staff members' names from the main table, depending on the shift they are schedule for on a given day.

Ideally, the daily sheet will have a cell that can reference a date column, look up the shift, then import the staff member's name for that shift. So, all shift data should only be entered on the main form. The only data to be entered on the Daily worksheet should be the date that is in question. I'd like the rest of the cells on the daily (which will be staff names) to automatically populate based on the selected day.

I'm afraid this is a little out of my level of expertise. I'm assuming it will be a combination of vlookup, index/match, and some "if" operators, but I can't get the formula correct. The file is attached to this message; if someone could have a look at it, I'm pretty sure you'll understand what I am getting at.

Any information or guidance you could offer would be a great help.

    Thanks,
