Excel pasting problem, need help please

    Hi guys,

I have been having trouble pasting into excel on my laptop, on my P.C not a problem.

If you have a look at the photos they will explain better than my words.

Background and what i have tried already, home P.c has excel 2010, work P.c has excel 2007, both display the information how we would like, we copy from the racing post site, then paste using the "paste special" and then text.

If we perform the exact same steps on my laptop, Acer aspire, we get the results in photo number 2.

We have gone through the settings in Excel one by one, all settings are the same.

I have even downloaded and installed Open office on my laptop, exact same problem occurs.

I am guessing that it must be down to a setting in the laptop rather than Excel, but have no clue.

The source of the copy is here

    Any help suggestions is welcomed.

    Phil.

Photo number 1, on the P.C this is how it should be pasting !

Photo number 2 from the laptop, as you can see it appears to still be pasting all of the info from the hyperlinks.

It might help get a response if you post a workbook/s with the sample output as your pictures are difficult to read, although it is clear that you are getting more information in one than the other.

What version of Windows are you using on the laptop and the PC? What browser, and version, are you using on the laptop and the PC? Are they fully up to data? Do you get any messages, errors or otherwise, when navigating the site.? What steps (process) do you go through to select and copy the data (the more detail, the more likely it is that someone can replicate it).

Thanks for the response, how do i post a sample please ?

To add further to the original post, today I have carried out the process on two other PC's, two have Windows 7 with all the latest updates, have also tried and failed on another laptop, both laptops have Windows 7, again with the latest updates.

Two of the pC's have Firefox and IE, both are the latest versions, not sure about the revision numbers though, the other PC has only got IE installed, the copy and paste works on all of them.

One laptop has IE only and ltest version, the other has Firefox and IE, again letest versions, the copy and paste does not work on either as expected.

To select the data, I left click and drag to to select, then right click to select copy, (have also tried ctrl + C and CTRL +CC) I get not error messages.

To copy into excel, I would select the cell, right click, select "paste special" then choose the "text" option, finally click ok, have also tried the paste special "unicode text" and "html" option all with same results, no error messages.

Click on Go Advanced and then click on the paperclip icon (attachments). Navigate to the file you want, select it and upload it. Close the window. Post the reply.

    Thanks TMS.

Attached are two files, the first one is from the PC this evening, the second from the laptop.

The first is the format we require.

    Correct.xls

The second attachment shows on the first worksheet how the data was pasted into it on the laptop, have a look at the second worksheet, I pasted the data into it once the file had been copied onto my PC, does this suggest it has something to do with the laptop somehow ? incidently both laptops are Acer Aspires, slightly different models but the same brand.

I've followed the steps you described on the At A Glance card. It looks like I get a whole lot of detail rather than just "what I can see".

I'm using a Sony Vaio laptop with Windows 7 and IE9 and Excel 2007.

I don't suppose you need a login for this site, do you? Would that make a difference, if you did?

Just used Safari and got this:

    HTML Code:
Exactly the same output with Chrome.

Looks like it's a problem with IE9. Are you using IE8 or earlier on the PCs?

Have you thought of using a Web Query rather than doing this manually? See the example.

Use Data | From Web, insert the Web site URL into the address bar, click on Go, select the table (highlighted with yellow arrow), click on Import button and select where you want the data.

The column widths need adjustment and you have more information than you need but it is readable and, perhaps more important, has a consistent layout.

You could probably use Autofilter to select the rows you want and maybe even copy and paste them somewhere else.

    Hi TMS,

have only just been able to spend some more time on this, this evening, it turns out to be as you thought, IE 9, and also certain versions of Firefox, I have just installed the very latest Firefox, it works great now, also it works with Chrome.

Never did like IE that much.

Thankyou for your help, very much appreciated.

    Regards

    Phil.
