[solved]summarize an adaptable running list from a column, 97-03 compatible

im working on a big spreadsheet and have attached a small scale of what i essentially need done.

in column B, you will find a running list of identifiers, i just used single letters for this purpose.

what i ultimately want to do is have a nice, concise list in column a that 1) gives you a list of identifiers and 2) the number of occurences in this list.

i know how to do concatenate so aesthetics im ok with but what i cant figure out how to do is get this jumbled list into a nice ordered set, that as it will be updated daily with possible new identifiers, will need to be adaptable if identifier "z" or whatever comes along.

nevermind i figured it out. took a bunch of helper columns but here is what i did in case anyone was interested
