Excel 2007 : Countif formula issue

Hi I need help in writing a formula that will let me count the number of sick Episodes in a month i.e. if someone has 10 days off in a months period but this is not all at the same time - an episode of 2 days, then another episode of 4 days and a further episode of 4 days (10 days in total over 3 episodes)

I can get excel to count the individual days, but cant figure the formula that would allow me to count the episodes.

Can anyone help please?
