    Setting sales targets

    Hi all,

I am trying to analyse the performance of 25 sales people in order to fairly set their sales targets for next year. I have set up the attached xls file.

POTENTIAL (B) indicates the number of potential customers available to the salesperson.
SALES (C) is the actual number of sales made. (D) PERF is the % achievement.

I am trying to use Excel to suitably 'rank'/position each person into 1 of 13 bands, in light of their relative performance to everyone else. Sales people with low sales % perf should fall into lower bands, better performers into the higher ones. The logic is, the targets for next year will be based more on potential or sales history, depending on which band the salesperson falls into.

Atm I have used percentagerank to allocate the bandings, but I have concerns. This is putting an equal number of salespersons in each band. Further, the mean is 14%, yet this is band 2/3. There seems to be too large a range between most bands.

Hopefully someone can help with this challenge, and use excel to solve it.

My thoughts are steering towards getting the mean, and making this band 6. Then creating 6 bands either side of it...but how I do this fairly Im not sure...hopefully someone with a statistical mind can come to my rescue! :-)

    Look forward to any replies.

    Thanks
    Martin
