I would like to be able to check a cell for the color of the font in it. For example I have a cell with the number $1,000 and it is blue. How do I detect it is blue vs black or some other color?

Hi... Welcome to the forum...
I am not sure I follow your question. If the font color is blue then it is blue... Do you want to change the color... or is it so that the color depends on the value of the cell...
Is the cell coloured using Conditionl formatting?
Hope that helps.

Bingo! The video showed me exactly what I needed!!! Thank you!
Bear in mind altering the font colour manually is a non-volatile action and thus does not trigger any events ... you must manually invoke a recalculation to remove risk of incorrect results at all times.
As a general rule of thumb (in Excel) never use manual formatting as means of differentiation for dependent calculations.
