I have a list of dates that I would like to sort chronologically, but it sorts on the leading number instead of the year. My dates are formatted like this: 9/19/2011

It sounds as though the "dates" are text values that look like dates. Check the formatting. If it is General and "looks" like a date, it's *not* a date. If it is a genuine date, and it is formatted as General, it will be a number.
