how to eliminate black rectangle when selecting cell

I'm publishing an excel page with no gridlines, so that it looks like a "regular" web page.

So far so good... except for the black rectangle which appears whenever a cell is selected.

Is there any way to either

    (a) eliminate it, or

    (b) change the color to white?

    Thanks!

Before you publish, If you protect the sheet, and uncheck the Allow select locked cells and the select unlocked cells, then it disappears...
Where there is a will there are many ways.
