    Unhappy Merging identical cells automatically

I am new to coding and cant seem to figure out an easy way to merge identical cells automatically. the only reason I want to merge is to neaten up the table

column A has all the duplicates, I would like to merge column A and keep the top value.

Second question ... is it possible to merge cells in a table? and will the merging still work if the filter is applied in the table?

    thanks

    Hi AlastairT

    Welcome to the forum ...

Best advice you could get will be, avoid merging cells in any table structure, better still forget that merging cells even exists.
They will give you trouble when sorting, copying, etc, etc ...

Think of other ways to neaten your sheet.

If you are talking about an Excel Table (List in pre-2007) then you can't merge cells.
If microsoft decided to disable merging in their tables, that should tell you something.
