    Data entry over multiple sheets

I have a database of students in CC CONTACT and I want to put them into lesson groups on CC Monday. Since I have a significant number of students to plug into lesson groups, it would be a pain to plug each student individually by copying and pasting. What I have figured out to do is setup a drop down list in CC MONDAY under each GROUP through data validation to have access to my database in CC CONTACT to plug a students name in from that database. Being the nerd that I am, I'm not satisfied with that. Therefore, I want a formula (and I KNOW it's out there) that will allow me assign students to a group (GROUP A, GROUP B, GROUP C, etc...) in the GROUP field of CC CONTACT and have those changes reflected in CC MONDAY. So student x,y&z that are assigned to group "A" in CC CONTACT will be automatically plugged into to GROUP A of CC MONDAY. I would like a formula to transfer or lookup data instead of manually entering each name. Or vise versa.

    moved to Excel General.

ajlo, welcome to the forum. To ensure you get a good response to your question, please post in the relevant forum. The Access forum won't get you much help for Excel questions.

    Hello,

if you can live with a slight layout change (i.e. have the groups sit underneath each other instead of in several rows), then a pivot table would be a good option.

Create a pivot table in the CC Monday sheet, specify the CC Contact table as the source, then put the fields Group and Name in the Row data fields. Leave all other fields blank.

    see attached.

That's a lovely idea and I'm ok with the formatting change. Thanks. I'm still having a problem seeing all of the students that should be in group A...so I would like the following.

    GROUPA
    Larry
    Moe
    Curly
    David
    John
    Steve

    GROUP B
    Alan
    Cindy
    Michelle

I did what you suggested, but I keep getting COUNT of name. I don't want to know the number of how many students. I want the above format and I'm not sure what to click to get it. Any further help would be appreciated. Thanks!

don't put anything in the Values area. You only want the row labels, so you only need the groups and the names in the row area. Look at the sample I posted.
