Formulate to calculate later date for I-9 document retention

Can someone help me on developing a formula which compares two dates and returns a later date after an employee is hired or terminated? In our HR department we are required by law to retain all I-9 forms for all active employees; 3 years after date of hire 1 year after date of termination, whichever is later. In this file, I have created some examples, which illustrates what I am trying to accomplish, and we can notice that 3 yrs. after hired date is later than 1 yr after term date. However, I would like for a formula to return the later date after I enter the term date in D column. Also I would like for a conditional formatting formula to change color or warn users when Later Date in column F is older than today’s date, so any record that has an old later date can be shredder safely. See attached file for more details. In advance, thank you for your time and efforts to help me solve this problem.
