Question Optimize Excel what to look for in a new Comp

    Hey,

I use excel for a lot of data analysis, entries in the tens of thousands, usually 50 - 100 megabyte files. I'm purchasing a new computer and I have a fairly good budget for it. I was wondering what your opinions were on what i should be looking for regarding system specs?

Is it more important to have a really good dual core processor with high ghz? or would it be better to have a quad core with slightly less processing speed? does a good GPU matter? Or does it all come down to having good RAM and a SSD instead of a 7200 magnet drive?

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Personally, I've always gone with "the higher the number, the better" ... unless you're talking about response times, of course.

Twin or quad processors, latest Intel processor(s), minimum of 4 Gb RAM with the option to expand, Windows 7 64 bit.

I don't know much about SSD, but it used to be good practice to split the operating system (and applications) and data ... so, one physical disk for OS and another physical disc for data.
