I need to conditionally format a cell based on wether or not it matches the previous cell.
I can do that with the formatting tool in 2010. My problem is it formats anything with a blank previous cell. How can I format only when the cells are different, but not blank?
You can use AND function to combine conditions.
e.g.
=AND(A1<>"",A2<>"",A2<>A1)
this checks that A1 and A2 are not blank and that A2 is different than A1
