Summing data based on a shared column (?)

I am not sure what the appropriate term for this is, but I wish to add up all the "web hits" from the same date, so I can then put them in a chart. I would prefer not to do this manually, as there are 5-10 rows per date, and several months to cover.

Can you please tell me what search terms I should use to search for this type solution?

    start with:

    7/30/2011 | 1
    7/30/2011 | 2
    7/30/2011 | 1

    7/31/2011 | 1
    7/31/2011 | 7
    7/31/2011 | 1

    end with:

    7/30/2011 | 4
    7/31/2011 | 9

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi, Kcr

If all you dates are located in Column A and the Hit's are in Column B.

The all you need to do is make a list of Dates either within this sheet or on another sheet.

If you have your data on Sheet 1 and use column A on say sheet 2 for the Dates then use a sumif in column B.
ie at B1 use =SUMIF(Sheet1!A:A,A1,Sheet1!B:B), then fill down against the dates.

    Cheers
