Problems as soon as Excel is opened

    Hi
I am using Excel 2003 Professional. A strange problem has started to happen. When I open Excel from the short cut in the start menu it automatically opens up the following files by default within Excel:

    setup.log
    RHDSetup.log
    PureRa.txt
    ntuser.dat
    config.sys
    cc_20110601_122246.reg
    autoexec.bat

If I close all the windows and create a blank document then start to type into a cell a window pops up full of Chinese or Japanese writing.

Someone actually passed the computer on to me to solve the problem and they mentioned something about accidentally pressing something within the tools/macro menu, but I don't know whether this is the cause or not.

I have tried to repair, remove and re-install but the problem won't go away.

Does anyone have any idea about what's going on.

    Thanks

Press Alt + F11 and open the visual basic editor. My guess is that you've got an autoexec macro running. Delete it and the problem should go away.

Doesn't look like an Excel problem, but you could check what's the the Excel Startup Folder
    Hope that helps.

I pressed alt & f11 but there is nothing there just a blank Visual Basic screen, do I need to check somewhere within that screen?

I also checked the XLSTART folder but there is nothing in it.

Re: Problems as soon as Excel is opened

what I have noticed is all the files that are opening in Excel are dumped on the root of the C: drive except for two, autoexec.bat & config.sys. When I move the files off the root they stop opening in Excel. So I'm left with just autoexec.bat & config.sys opening now.
Why would these files be sat on root?

In visual basic I pressed "control & r" and this brought up the project screen, I have two projects called
    VBAProject (autoexec.bat)
    VBAProject (config.sys)

but I don't know how to stop them loading at startup of Excel
